Can I drink alcohol on HRT?

There is no pharmacologic interaction that requires you to stop drinking on HRT. However, alcohol is one of the strongest independent triggers of hot flashes and night sweats, fragments REM sleep, and raises breast cancer risk in postmenopausal women in a dose-dependent way. If your goal is symptom relief, even one drink with dinner often undoes the work HRT is doing on sleep and vasomotor symptoms. Most evidence-based menopause clinicians suggest staying under 3 drinks per week.
