Progestin-only contraceptive (perimenopause)
Drospirenone 4 mg — progestin-only pill
A 24/4 progestin-only pill with antiandrogenic and anti-mineralocorticoid activity — estrogen-free contraception for perimenopausal women, with a more forgiving missed-pill window than older POPs.

Slynd is an oral progestin-only contraceptive (POP) containing 4 mg of drospirenone, taken as 24 active pills followed by 4 inactive pills (a 24/4 regimen). It was FDA-approved for pregnancy prevention.
Drospirenone is a synthetic progestin derived from spironolactone. Unlike older progestins, it has anti-mineralocorticoid activity (reduces water retention) and antiandrogenic activity (can help with acne and androgenic symptoms).
Because it contains no estrogen, it is an option for perimenopausal women who need contraception but have estrogen contraindications — including migraine with aura, smoking over 35, a history of VTE, or elevated cardiovascular risk.
Drospirenone suppresses ovulation primarily by inhibiting the mid-cycle LH surge, and thickens cervical mucus to reduce sperm penetration. The 24/4 regimen (rather than the traditional 28-active POP) allows a more consistent suppression of ovarian activity.
The 24-hour missed-pill window: if a pill is missed by less than 24 hours, no backup contraception is needed. This is more forgiving than traditional POPs, which require backup after a delay of more than 3 hours.
No. Slynd is a progestin-only contraceptive. It prevents pregnancy but does not treat menopausal vasomotor symptoms or genitourinary syndrome. Women in perimenopause who also have hot flashes, vaginal dryness, or sleep disruption may need HRT or a non-hormonal menopause therapy in addition to (or instead of) contraception.
It depends on your clinical situation. Contraception and menopause symptom treatment are separate goals. Your Kindr provider evaluates whether both are appropriate or whether a single regimen better fits your needs. Do not combine them without clinical guidance.
Traditional progestin-only pills (e.g., norethindrone) use a 28-active regimen and require backup contraception if a pill is more than 3 hours late. Slynd uses a 24/4 regimen with a 24-hour missed-pill window, making it more forgiving.
Its antiandrogenic activity can help with acne and mild androgenic symptoms, and it may reduce water retention. It does not treat hot flashes, night sweats, or vaginal dryness — those require HRT or a targeted non-hormonal therapy.
Contraception is recommended until menopause is confirmed (12 months without a period). Your provider helps time the transition off contraception and, if needed, onto menopause care.
