Questions
Is BMI accurate for women in menopause?
BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, and menopause typically shifts body composition toward more visceral fat even when BMI stays stable. Waist circumference and DEXA-based body composition are more informative.
Does GLP-1 medication change BMI?
STEP-1 and SURMOUNT-1 trials showed average BMI reductions of roughly 5 and 7 units respectively with semaglutide 2.4mg and tirzepatide 15mg over ~15 months.
