DHEA in menopause: what it does and doesn't do
DHEA is a precursor hormone that declines with age. Intravaginal DHEA (prasterone, Intrarosa) is FDA-approved for genitourinary syndrome. Oral DHEA supplementation is more controversial — modest benefit for mood and libido in some women, no benefit in others.
Reasonable uses
- Vaginal prasterone 6.5mg for GSM
- Low-dose oral DHEA 10–25mg with documented low DHEA-S and symptoms
- Not for general anti-aging
