Micronized progesterone: uses, dosing, and why kindr uses bioidentical

Micronized progesterone (Prometrium) is the FDA-approved bioidentical progesterone used in modern HRT. It differs meaningfully from synthetic progestins like medroxyprogesterone in cardiovascular, breast, and mood profile.

What micronized progesterone actually does

 • Endometrial protection against unopposed estrogen
 • Sleep improvement via GABA-active metabolites
 • Anxiety reduction and mood stabilization
 • Modest hot flash reduction even without estrogen
 • Breakthrough bleeding control in perimenopause

Standard uses

 1. Continuous combined HRT: 100 mg nightly
 2. Cyclic HRT: 200 mg nightly for 12-14 days per cycle
 3. Perimenopausal sleep/anxiety: 100-200 mg nightly
 4. Heavy bleeding: 200 mg days 14-28

Frequently asked questions

What is micronized progesterone?

Progesterone chemically identical to what the human body makes, milled to small particle size for oral absorption. Brand: Prometrium. Available as 100 mg and 200 mg capsules.

Does progesterone help with hot flashes?

Yes, modestly. Micronized progesterone alone (300 mg nightly) reduces vasomotor symptoms about 50-60% in postmenopausal women — smaller than estrogen but useful when estrogen is contraindicated.

Micronized progesterone vs progestins — what's the difference?

Synthetic progestins (medroxyprogesterone, norethindrone) increase breast cancer risk in combination HRT; micronized progesterone does not appear to. Progesterone also improves sleep and mood; progestins often do not.

How much micronized progesterone for perimenopause?

100-200 mg nightly is standard. See Prometrium dosage for cyclic vs continuous regimens.

Is oral or vaginal progesterone better?

Oral produces the sleep-inducing allopregnanolone metabolite and is standard for HRT. Vaginal (200 mg) delivers similar endometrial protection with less sedation — useful if morning grogginess is a problem.
